This workshop introduces community orchardists to the role of cover crops in improving soil health, supporting beneficial insects, and increasing overall ecosystem diversity. Participants will learn how to select cover crops for different orchard goals—such as weed suppression, nitrogen fixation, erosion control, and pollinator support—along with timing for planting, termination, and integration around young and established trees. The session will emphasize practical, scalable approaches that build resilient orchard systems while aligning with the realities of community-managed sites.
